PETALING JAYA: A senator has urged the Terengganu state government to honour its commitments after it was sued for RM44 million over the now abandoned Taman Ilmu project in Besut.

Speaking to FMT, Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah said the issue actually began almost a decade ago when the previous state administration hired two Korean firms, Yeonhee Engineering Proff Co and Vitzrosys Co, to carry out repair works on the project.

The two companies later established Ruas Bina Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and remain its majority shareholders.

However, the state failed to pay the firms for the work done, leading to a lawsuit in 2016.

Subsequently, the new PAS administration that took over the state government in 2018 sought to resolve the issue and issued two letters of intent to Ruas Bina in 2019.
