PETALING JAYA: An anti-graft organisation has called for a probe into an allegation that a contract issue involving YTL Communications was the reason why Muhyiddin Yassin, then the home minister, pushed for Maszlee Malik’s resignation as the education minister.

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) said this was because politicians must not lobby for businessmen.

Speaking to FMT, TI-M president Muhammad Mohan urged Maszlee to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Maszlee made the claim in his book, Memori Bukan Memoir.

Mohan said politicians should focus on protecting the public’s interest and should not entertain businessmen seeking government contracts as this would lead to kickbacks and other forms of corruption.
