PETALING JAYA: Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has pointed out the irony of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s rise and fall from power because of betrayal.

“He came to power by betraying the people who voted for him and the Pakatan Harapan coalition in the last general election,” the former Bersatu Supreme Council member said.

But 17 months down the road, the very people Muhyiddin plotted with, the “hungry wolves of Umno” as Kadir describes them, turned their backs on Muhyiddin and withdrew their support for him, ultimately leading to his downfall.

Muhyiddin’s tenure as the country’s 8th prime minister ended last Monday when he resigned after losing majority support among MPs.

Subsequently, Umno’s Ismail Sabri Yaakob was appointed prime minister with the support of MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), GPS, PBS and several independents.
