PETALING JAYA: A PAS leader has congratulated the newly-established Taliban-led government of Afghanistan for “successfully achieving victory” for their country.

The PAS international affairs and external relations committee chairman Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said the Taliban had successfully freed their homeland from “the clutches of colonialism”.

“The victory and ‘independence’ achieved this time is the result of the efforts of all Afghans in an effort to liberate their homeland which for 20 years has been colonised and invaded without mercy and humanity that almost destroyed Afghanistan,” he said in a Twitter post.

Khalil, who is also Batu Buruk assemblyman and son of party president Abdul Hadi Awang said with the victory, he hoped that all stakeholders would work together and reach an agreement to put Afghanistan back on track.

“May the new government of Afghanistan and its people work together to develop the country and achieve prosperity, peace and progress after this based on the sharia and comprehensive Islamic values,” he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Social media platforms Facebook and Twitter have pulled a post by PAS’ Batu Buruk assemblyman Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi in which he congratulated the Taliban on its takeover of Afghanistan.

In an advisory notice on the statement, Facebook stated that the post had violated the platform’s community standards and Muhammad Khalil’s account had been issued a 24-hour ban from posting or commenting of any kind.

“This post goes against our standards on dangerous individuals and organisations, so only people who manage Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi can see it,’’ said the notice, referring to the account in question.

Similarly, Muhammad Khalil’s Facebook account was also prevented from going “live” or advertising for 60 days.
