KUALA LUMPUR: Political parties in the country have agreed to leave behind the “politics of old” after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong called for its leaders to work together to address the Covid-19 and economic crises, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has revealed.
He said this when speaking to reporters following a two-hour audience with the King and his deputy, the Sultan of Perak, along with party chiefs from DAP, Amanah, Umno, PAS and Pejuang.
According to Anwar, the King had told them that the country was in a constitutional and political crisis and that the leaders must therefore unite to manage Covid-19.
He added that they seemed to have reached a consensus to focus on the country’s development.
“The issue (discussed) was not on the appointment of a new prime minister. The Agong and the deputy Agong also backed a new form of politics (suatu bentuk politik yang baru) that is more harmonious for the rakyat.”
