PETALING JAYA: PAS is expected to revive its cooperation with Umno through Muafakat Nasional (MN) if the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government collapses, says a political analyst.

Azmi Hassan said PAS’ contradicting stance of defending PN but supporting MN at the same time was just to buy time for the Islamist party’s longevity.

“It is likely that the Umno MPs who supported Muhyiddin Yassin before this will gradually decrease and PAS is predicted to return to MN with Umno,” he told FMT.

Azmi said Umno will accept PAS with open arms, just as it will with its own leaders who are currently leaning towards Muhyiddin.

“Umno pragmatically understands that they desperately need (the MPs’) support to move on to the next step,” he said.
