PH rallies ‘all opponents’ of Muhyiddin to back new govt under Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Opponents of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin have been called upon to unite in backing a new government under opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council said this was especially prescient given the health and economic crises plaguing the country.

“Although it is common knowledge that only 100 MPs support Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yassin as prime minister and 120 MPs do not, he refused to resign honourably in line with Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution,” it said in a statement today.

“Therefore, the presidential council invites all MPs who oppose and reject Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yassin to jointly support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime ministerial candidate to prove support and form a new majority in Parliament.”

The move will restore credibility to the country’s leadership when it is needed most, the council said, to curb Covid-19 infections and drive economic recovery.
