PETALING JAYA: PKR chief whip Johari Abdul said an opposition MP may not necessarily succeed Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister if the latter fails to command the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

The Sungai Petani MP suggested that there “could” be another potential candidate that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong could consider.

“Whoever is appointed may not necessarily be from the opposition,” he said in a special interview with Sinar Harian.

“Still, regardless of who succeeds Muhyiddin, the main focus must be on overcoming the pandemic as soon as possible.”

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has always pushed for opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as its prime ministerial candidate.
