PETALING JAYA: Opposition MPs have stressed that the next Parliament sitting must be held as soon as possible, no later than Aug 9.

The MPs said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin can call for an earlier meeting of the Dewan Rakyat under Standing Order 11(3) to table, debate and decide on the motion of confidence.

In a statement, they said it was unacceptable that this issue was being put off until September.

“It is highly unreasonable for a government, whose legitimacy and majority support is under question, to delay this process in Parliament,” they said.

The MPs said the question of government stability must be resolved now, taking into account the Covid-19 situation in the country, where the number of deaths has continued to rise every day and the economic situation in the country continues to languish.
