This 8,000-year-old forest risks degazettement
#1
THE Selangor state government plans to cut down and develop the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve to make way for “mixed development”.
The 931ha peatland forest was gazetted as a forest reserve in 1927. It is home to endangered species such as the Malayan Sun Bear, Selangor Pygmy Flying Squirrel and, Langat Red Fighting Fish.

The orang asli who live in the fringes of the forest also rely on it as a source of income and food. The state governments plan to degazette will put the animals and the orang asli at risk. – October 31, 2020.
