Repair vs. Replace Glass for Doors – Advice Needed
#1
Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide whether to repair or replace the glass in my home doors. One of my doors has a small crack, and a couple of others have minor scratches and fogging between the panes.

I’m not sure if repairing the damaged glass is cost-effective or if full replacement is the better long-term solution. Are there certain types of glass or door styles where repair is feasible? What are the typical costs, risks, and durability differences between repair and replacement?

Any tips or personal experiences would be really helpful!

You should repair and replace glass for doors when dealing with cracks or fogging, especially in tempered or insulated doors, since repairs are often temporary or impossible. Minor scratches on single-pane glass can sometimes be polished, but replacement ensures durability. Costs vary: repairs $10–$50, replacements $100–$600. Replacement is generally safer and longer-lasting.
