PETALING JAYA: The government’s committee tasked with looking into reconvening Parliament is unnecessary since the decision ultimately rests in Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s hands, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today.

In a statement, he said there was nothing for the committee to “study” prior to reopening Parliament, maintaining that Muhyiddin should just advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to reconvene Parliament.

“Forming a committee to study whether Parliament should reconvene as soon as possible is akin to forming a committee to study whether the prime minister should resign, when the decision rests in the hands of the prime minister personally,” he quipped.

He added that Muhyiddin’s hesitance to heed the King’s call showed he was insincere about obeying the King’s wishes.

Lim said the committee, which will consider whether Parliament would reconvene in a physical or hybrid setting, was just a tactic aimed at delaying the reopening and to “subvert the constitutional process”
