Vaccinating all who registered by end-July key to recovery, says Lee

PETALING JAYA: The key to ending the lockdown is to ensure that those who have registered for the vaccine receive it by the end of next month, says former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye.

He said this will enable the movement control order to be relaxed in August.

The number who have registered is 13.8 million, or 42% of the population, Lee said.

Commenting on the national recovery plan outlined by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday, the Gopeng MP and PKR health spokesman said not enough emphasis was placed on vaccinating the population as quickly as possible.

He called on the government to simplify the registration process by rolling out automatic registration for eligible citizens and administering vaccines on a walk-in basis.

“When the percentage of people given the vaccine increases, the number of new cases will decrease and the number of patients requiring treatment in the ICU will decrease,” he said in a statement today.
