PETALING JAYA: If the government can mobilise all its machinery for the general election, why can’t it do the same for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, asks opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The Port Dickson MP said there was no excuse for the low registration rates in rural areas, as the government had previously convinced many rural folk to come out and vote during the nationwide polls.

“More government machinery needs to be mobilised to suburban areas,” he told reporters after a visit to the vaccination centre in Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre here today.

“The excuse of people not wanting to register and delaying their registrations just shows a lack of preparedness and commitment on the part of the country’s leadership.”

Commenting on the vaccination process here, Anwar said he was satisfied to see that things were going smoothly on the ground in urban areas such as Kuala Lumpur and Subang.

Anwar was accompanied by other Pakatan Harapan members, including PKR’s Wong Chen, DAP’s Lim Yi Wei and Amanah’s Dzulkefly Ahmad, who is also chairman of the Selangor Covid-19 task force.
