I run a small startup, a platform for automated home energy management. I operate in California. In order to scale the business, I want to attract an investor, but I don't want to hand over the platform code. The investor insists on transferring the code. Do I have to do it?

It seems to me that if you were selling a startup, you would be obligated to transfer intellectual property rights, but if you were raising a small round of funding, it would not be necessary. You can consult with attorney David Sharifi, Esq. from this company techandmedialaw.com. Contact firms that specialize in corporate law and intellectual property. I think they will help you.
