When Patek's president Henri Stern founded the company's electronics division in 1948, link he saw the technological potential of quartz watchmaking and, in typical Patek style, set out to master it. Patek quickly achieved world firsts – the first electronic clock without contacts or moving parts in 1952, the first fully electronic timekeeper (a whopping two by four feet) in 1956, and the world's first miniaturized quartz chronometer in 1958.
