I’ve run into that a bunch on Rainey, mostly Fri/Sat around sunset. Bartenders sometimes tip you off before a pop-up set, and the patios by food trucks host quick gigs. Funniest one for me was a drummer weaving through the crowd while a magician did a ring trick at Half Step. Go a bit early and you’ll catch sound checks that morph into mini shows.
