‘Psywar or real threat, take Hadi’s words on govt collapse seriously’

KUALA LUMPUR – What appears to be a veiled threat by Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang about the government potentially collapsing has raised the question of whether this is part of a larger psywar by the opposition – or if something more sinister is at play.

While Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has brushed the matter off by claiming the PAS president was being delirious, Hadi’s comment has raised alarm bells among many social media users.

The main concern is if Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders may in fact be involved in any backroom dealings with MPs from component parties of the unity government to take control of Putrajaya.

For political observers, leaders of the ruling coalition would do well to take cognisance of Hadi’s remark.

After all, it was the failure of recent past prime ministers to recognise and act seriously against similar portents of a potential coup that eventually led to their ousters.

Singapore Institute of International Affairs senior fellow Oh Ei Sun opined that Hadi’s recent statement might be a combination of an attempt at psychological warfare and an insinuation of what could happen.

Speaking to The Vibes, the academic said there is nothing unusual about a rival party attempting to “dethrone” a sitting government.

“Normal” for Opposition to plot govt’s downfall, says Hadi

IT is entirely within the Opposition’s right to try and topple the unity government, claimed PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, adding that they have the right to plan and that nobody can stop them from making such plans.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby earlier today (March 6), the Marang MP said this when asked to clarify his remarks about attempts by the Opposition to topple the federal government.

“Matters like a vote of no confidence, collecting statutory declarations (SDs) and government supporters who are no longer loyal – this is normal,” he was reported as saying.

“We have the right to plan, and no one can stop us from making plans.”

In defending his earlier remarks, Hadi said his statement was merely political in nature and was something “normal”.

Isham Jalil: Hadi is panicking, wants to form gov’t to escape graft-linked prosecution

UMNO information chief Datuk Isham Jalil has taken a pot shot of PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang for having hinted that he was planning to overthrow and replace the unity government.

Claiming that the Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) deputy chairman is eyeing to form yet another backdoor government, Isham said Hadi has not only side-stepped the decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong but is least bothered if the Malaysian political scene is unstable, investors run away and people losing their jobs once again.

“The important thing is that he can form a government. Maybe so that he and his friends can avoid prosecution,” suggested Isham in a recent Facebook post. “This could be because they are now hot and sweaty with the on-going investigation on PN-linked to project corruption and for bribing voters.”

Stop trying to topple govt, be good opposition instead: analyst

KUALA LUMPUR – Political analyst Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff has urged PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and his supporters to stop “dreaming” about toppling the unity government and let it continue to carry out its duty instead.

Taking his views to Facebook, Agus suggested PAS be a constructive opposition and focus on supporting the government’s efforts to enhance the Malaysia Madani concept in administering the country.

He said this in response to Hadi’s claims that his party had the right to plan to topple the government.

“My advice to the PAS president and his supporters: enough with the politics. Respect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order,” Agus said in a Facebook post.

“If you wish to be political, wait until the 16th general election. Let the government become stable first,”
