‘Warlike posturing’ in PAS parade sends wrong image of Islam, says minister - superadmin - 02-19-2023 PETALING JAYA: The warlike posturing displayed by members of Terengganu PAS Youth in their Himpunan Pemuda Islam Terengganu (Himpit) parade could send a wrong image of Islam and the country, says religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar. Na’im said it would be better if the parade organiser showcased the Islamic values of peace, unity and well-being. “I was informed about a youth assembly programme that involved a parade where the Islamic religious symbols were displayed. The parade created various perceptions and frustrations in society,” he said in a statement. “In my opinion, parading in such a way is unnecessary and could send a wrong image of Islam and the country. “All parties have obligations to ensure peace and harmony in the society (and) any action that could create public unrest should be avoided at all costs.” - More - RE: ‘Warlike posturing’ in PAS parade sends wrong image of Islam, says minister - superadmin - 02-20-2023 We knew about Himpit cosplay rally, but not weapons: T’ganu police
JOHOR BARU – Police in Terengganu were aware of the controversial Himpunan Pemuda Islam Terengganu (Himpit) rally, but were not informed that some individuals would be marching with replicas of weapons.
According to Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohami Md Isa, initial investigations revealed that the event took place on February 17 at a resort in Setiu, Terengganu. “The march was one of the events organised in conjunction with the programme, which included cosplay themed with clothes and weapons of Islamic heritage. “It received participation from all districts in Terengganu,” Rohaimi said in a statement today. He said police are aware that the rally has resulted in public discomfort, adding that investigations are underway to determine if any offences were committed during the rally before taking any action. - More - |
