Umno will survive Tajuddin’s old stories, says council member - superadmin - 06-28-2022

PETALING JAYA: An Umno Supreme Council member has described as “old news” an exposé by Tajuddin Abdul Rahman of Umno MPs signing declarations backing opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to be prime minister.

Razlan Muhammad Rafii said the revelation by Tajuddin were similar to the one made by former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa in January last year.

“It’s old news. Very old. We shouldn’t entertain such things,” he told FMT, adding that such exposés had not weakened the party one bit, as evidenced by the party’s victories at the Johor and Melaka state elections.

“Those who lose party posts normally have a lot to say, but Umno remains united,” he said, referring to Tajuddin’s recent removal from the Supreme Council on grounds he was critical of the party.

Respect my authority: Zahid responds to bombshell with Umno constitution

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has addressed the alleged conspiracy within Umno to dethrone him as president, telling members to respect the party constitution that ensured his election into the top post.

This follows a claim by sacked Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman that there were internal attempts led by some of the party senior leaders to oust Zahid.

The president claimed to have no knowledge of any such meetings discussing his fate, but said any attempts to remove him must go through the proper channel, and not through a back door.

“We must respect the party constitution,” he told reporters at the court complex here today.

GEORGE TOWN: Two analysts are at odds on whether Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s removal from the Umno Supreme Council will see other members toe the line.

Anantha Raman Govindasamy of Universiti Malaysia Sabah said he believed members would conform, but Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Azeem Fazwan Ahmad Farouk said dissent would not be stifled.
