PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has urged the government to no longer delay the tabling of an anti-hopping bill.

Calling the bill a “progressive move”, Khaled said the bill was part of Umno’s commitment to eradicate all forms of mandate abuse by elected representatives.

The bill was also an important part of political reforms supported by both Umno and the opposition.

“If the tabling of the bill is delayed for too long, it will raise doubts about Umno’s commitment in championing political and institutional reforms as promised. Therefore, it should not be delayed any longer and must be given priority by the government,” he said in a statement today.

Don’t confuse people over MoU, Annuar tells DAP

PASIR MAS: Annuar Musa, a minister in the government coalition, has reminded DAP not to make statements that could confuse the people, especially on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the ruling coalition and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Annuar, a member of the MoU negotiation and implementation committee, said that 80% of the items in the MoU had been or were being implemented.

“There are only a few things, such as the proposal to limit the term of office of the prime minister and the tabling of a law against party hopping in Parliament, that have not been implemented. The rest are in the process of implementation and are running well,” he said.

“Therefore, I advise DAP not to issue statements that could confuse the people as if there is no understanding between the government and the opposition (PH),” he said.

Table anti-hopping bill or we’ll take to the streets, says Mat Sabu

KUALA LUMPUR: Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja) has again urged the government to table the anti-hopping bill in today’s Dewan Rakyat meeting, warning that opposition members will take to the streets if Putrajaya fails to do so.

In debating the Supplementary Supply Bill (2021) 2022, the Amanah president said the nation’s political climate has been unstable ever since the Sheraton Move in 2020 which led to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government.

This drove people to lose their trust in Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy, which Mohamad said was evidenced by the low voter turnouts in recent state elections.
“The people have lost confidence in the parliamentary democratic system and in elected representatives. To fix this, the tabling of the anti-hopping bill must be expedited.

“If the bill isn’t introduced in this Dewan Rakyat meeting, my friends and I will take to the streets to push for it.
