MACC advisor concerned over dropping of charges against ex-Felda director - superadmin - 09-08-2021 PETALING JAYA: The chairman of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory board says it takes a serious view about the agency’s decision to withdraw 29 corruption charges against former Felda board member Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashi. In a statement today, Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR) chairman Abu Zahar Ujang said LPPR felt there were weaknesses in the investigation, as well as shortfalls in the management and administration of MACC. “Because the action taken on the case was not transparent and professional, but leaned more towards political interests, the current MACC management has to bear the implications,” he said. “As an advisory panel, LPPR advises that such matters should not be repeated because the implications are huge. It gives a negative perception of the prosecution, especially the MACC, which is seen not to adhere to the principles of transparency, independence and professionalism.” LPPR is one of five independent agencies mandated to monitor MACC under Section 13 of the MACC Act 2009, and its members are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. - More - |
