The Revillagigedo Archipelago, more commonly known as the Socorro Islands, is not your average dive destination. Located 250 miles off Mexico's Baja Peninsula, this remote UNESCO World Heritage site is a place of raw, volcanic beauty and unparalleled pelagic action. Forget shallow coral gardens; Socorro is all about the giants of the deep, and the only way to experience it is via a dedicated socorro liveaboard diving expedition.
Often called "Mexico's Galapagos," a trip here is a pilgrimage for divers seeking intimate, wide-angle encounters with marine megafauna that are famous for their curiosity.
The Stars of the Show
Socorro's isolation makes it a magnet for some of the ocean's most impressive creatures. Dive sites like The Boiler (San Benedicto Island) and Roca Partida offer guaranteed thrills:
- Giant Oceanic Manta Rays: Socorro is legendary for its massive, friendly, and highly interactive oceanic manta rays, with wingspans reaching up to 7 meters (23 feet). They frequently glide over divers, seemingly playing in their bubbles.

Essential Trip Details
Since the islands are completely uninhabited, every Socorro adventure begins with a 24- to 27-hour crossing aboard a liveaboard vessel, typically departing from Cabo San Lucas or San José del Cabo.
