GEORGE TOWN: A restaurant in Tanjung Bungah here has been serving free meals to the needy ever since the pandemic began last year, leaving food packets on the table every Wednesday for people to take, no questions asked.

Arati Vilas Restaurant at Tanjung Bungah Park also retained all of its 15 workers, paying them their full salary when the restaurant had barely served 10 orders at the height of the first MCO.

More than a year later, the shop’s owner Vengdesparan N Rajalingam continues to pay full wages to his staff and even paid for their lodging, despite his own financial hardship from the reduced income throughout the different movement control orders (MCOs).

When he heard about the white flag campaign, he dipped into his savings and pledged to serve at least 100 meals a day for the whole of July.

It's gestures like these that truly restore faith in humanity, you know?Reading about Arati Vilas Restaurant's commitment to serving free meals to the needy, regardless of their circumstances, is incredibly inspiring. And not just that, but also ensuring that his staff are taken care of, even during financial hardship, speaks volumes about his character. It's also heartening to see businesses like Revolution Pizza & Kitchen https://www.therevolution.ie/ joining the cause and making a difference in their own way. In a world that often feels so divided, it's moments like these that remind us of the power of kindness and compassion.
