Let's take a look at the following case: The Most Radioactive Man in History – Hisashi Ouchi Hisashi Ouchi experienced some of the most severe radiation burns in history due to a tragic accident at Japan's Tokaimura nuclear power plant in 1999. He began to shed blood after losing most of his skin, finally ending his agony. The 35-year-old nuclear power plant technician had almost no white blood cells, which resulted in no immune system. Hisashi Ouchi's chromosomes could be seen in photographs as they were completely depleted. The cells introduced were wiped out by the excessive radiation flowing through his blood. His images indicated that the skin grafts were not able to hold because his DNA was unable to repair itself. The doctors then recommended a revolutionary approach that hadn't been attempted on radiation victims before - stem cell transplants. These would expedite Ouchi's ability to generate new blood. Regrettably, in the end, the doctors were able to keep him alive for 83 excruciating days without his consent.
In general, the human body replaces its cells regularly. Scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, have finally figured out how fast and extensive this “changeover” is. Every day, about 330 billion cells are replaced, which corresponds to roughly 1 percent of our total cells. Within 80 to 100 days, 30 trillion will be replenished, which is equivalent to a new person.
The earlier context gives us insight into that we do not live and die at different times. Both life and death are human constructs, which means they are just different concepts from mental consciousness. In reality, we experience life and death simultaneously and at every moment. To put it differently, there isn't a specific period of life for the dead after life itself. Under the influences of kamma-vipaka, all existences would rise and fall simultaneously and infinitely.
According to Chinese philosophy, everything is a combination of yin and yang. The yin-yang principle dictates: that when a quality reaches its zenith, it naturally begins to transform into an opposing quality. Uniting the two brings something. In other words, the elements of yin and yang are shifting, as a current in the ocean, a retreat completes each progression, and each ascension is transformed into a fall. Ultimately, it is all about balancing the dichotomy between yin (decay) and yang (flourish) – the competing and complementary forces – the victor claims the throne.
In a nutshell, if yang is greater than yin, a specimen will grow, or vice versa. In Hisashi Ouchi's case, the severe radiation has obliterated his DNA's ability to produce new cells, in which the yang factor (flourish) is overpowered by the yin factor (decay). Just like in life, no individuals are either pure saints or evil. Each day, we struggle or juggle between good and bad, but the winner is always in control. May we all become enlightened and see through the ultimate reality of all things now.
