Viral videos sting, but it’s just water off frogs’ backs

Each time elected representatives switch allegiances, social media is flooded with video clips of what they preached while still with their original party. The contrast between what they said then and now can be regarded as disgusting by many of us.

When Dr Mahathir Mohamad quit Umno and decided to partner with PKR, DAP and Amanah in 2016, netizens were taken down memory lane with clips showing the leaders of these parties attacking each other fiercely in the past.

The most memorable no-holds barred clips that resurfaced included the unflattering description of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim by Mahathir soon after sacking him as his deputy prime minister in 1998. Just before GE14, he was seen shaking hands with Anwar for his support.

This country has just been named the happiest in the world

(CNN) — To say the past year has been a difficult one for people across the globe is something of an understatement.

Not only has the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the deaths of over 2.6 million people worldwide, it's also led to a massive shake up in everyday life for many of us.

But despite the devastating events of the last 12 months and the resulting decline in mental health in a number of destinations, there's been no change at the top spot when it comes to ranking the happiest country in the world.

For the fourth year running, Finland has come out on top in the annual list powered by data from the Gallup World Poll, with Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands following in second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively.

Genetics may free a woman convicted of killing her 4 babies

Genetics may free a woman convicted of killing her 4 babies and help other parents explain the unexplainable

[Image: 210318104152-20210318-australia-folbigg-...er-169.jpg]

(CNN)Kathleen Folbigg has spent the past 18 years in prison for one of the most horrific crimes imaginable: killing all four of her babies.
But new scientific evidence suggests that's not what happened.

Genomic testing shows at least two of the Australian's babies likely died from a previously undiscovered genetic mutation that led to heart complications -- meaning she may have been wrongfully imprisoned for almost two decades.

The finding has prompted 90 scientists -- including two Australian Nobel Laureates -- to ask the governor of New South Wales to pardon Folbigg and let her walk free. If that happens, Folbigg's case will be one of the worst miscarriages of justice in Australian history.

The ramifications don't end there.

While scientists are still learning about the causes of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) -- an umbrella term for when children die suddenly from unexplained causes -- the findings in Folbigg's case may help other parents who are grieving the unexpected loss of their own children.

PETALING JAYA: The office of a Selangor assemblyman has lodged a police report, urging authorities to investigate a claim that RM500 million had been paid to a political party through a high-profile lawyer.

In the report lodged at the Dang Wangi police station on March 12, Kuang assemblyman Sallehudin Amiruddin claimed the money was a commission for helping Putrajaya reach a settlement with Goldman Sachs.

The allegation had gone viral on social media last week.

In a statement, Sallehudin said the message that went viral claimed that the money would be used for the 15th general election.

We asked Asian Americans about their experiences with hate

We asked Asian Americans about their experiences with hate. The responses were heartbreaking

[Image: 210318172302-04-asian-americans-speak-ou...ge-169.jpg]

(CNN)A cardiologist at a grocery store almost had her mask ripped off. A young man was verbally accosted, and his White friend didn't notice. A retired woman was called a racial slur and blocked from exiting a parking lot.

These are some examples of hostility that Asian Americans have faced in the last year. While this hatred directed at the Asian community is anything but new, animosity toward the group has grown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last March, then-President Donald Trump referred to the coronavirus as "the Chinese virus" -- subsequently, many Asian Americans said they were blamed for bringing Covid-19 to the US. Asian American businesses that were already devastated by the hardship of the pandemic took a second financial hit due to the discrimination they experienced.
