Posted by: superadmin - 04-24-2021, 04:49 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 24 — Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has been replaced as Umno Perlis chief with immediate effect, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced in a circular today.

The brief statement explained that Shahidan will be replaced with current Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and that the switch is effective from today.

“We would like to wish a huge thank you to Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim for all the service he has done during his tenure,” Ahmad Zahid wrote.

However there was no explanation offered into the sudden shift in guards.

The decision comes ahead of the supreme council meeting where party election matters are expected to be debated.

Shahidan, who is also Arau MP, is also the chairman of Perbadanan PR1MA and the National Housing Corp (NHS), agencies under the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — Seat allocation discussions for the 15th General Election (GE15) between Bersatu and PAS has reached 30 per cent and are expected to be completed soon.

Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the discussion involves parliamentary and state seat allocations in the peninsula and at the same time, negotiations with Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties, especially in Sabah, were being held as well.

Ahmad Faizal, who is representing Bersatu in the PN seat negotiations, said a number of meetings would be held until the process is completed.

“I expect the negotiations will end soon and we are also recommending that all parties submit the number of seats that they wish to contest before we proceed with the discussions,” he told reporters at the closing ceremony of the Srikandi Muda Leadership Empowerment programme here, today.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has managed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) worth RM81.9 billion from 240 companies so far this year, says Azmin Ali.

The international trade and industry minister said all the investments were of high quality, including investments in technology, innovation, green technology, electric vehicles and financial technology sectors.

He said the high-quality investment policy was also practised during the trade and investment missions in South Korea and Japan in early April, attracting almost RM7 billion in investments.

“When I was in Seoul and held discussions with the top management of SK Nexilis, they agreed to double their investment in Sabah from RM2.3 billion to RM4.24 billion,” he told Buletin TV3 today.

As bodies pile up, India's leaders face rising public anger over second Covid-19 wave
Posted by: superadmin - 04-23-2021, 07:22 PM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

[Image: 210423034806-07-india-covid-modi-governm...ge-169.jpg]

New Delhi (CNN)Just six weeks ago, India's Health Minister declared that the country was "in the endgame" of the Covid-19 pandemic. On Friday, India reported the world's highest single-day number of new cases since the pandemic began, for the second day in a row.

India's second wave, which began in mid-March, has devastated communities and hospitals across the country. Everything is in short supply -- intensive care unit beds, medicine, oxygen and ventilators. Bodies are piling up in morgues and crematoriums.

India reported 332,730 new cases on Friday, marking the highest daily case count globally. The United States is second, having recorded a high of 300,310 cases on January 2.

India's population is roughly four times that of the US, and its daily cases still fall behind the US when adjusted for population size (in cases per million people).

MP SPEAKS | Is the minster of law defending the indefensible?
Posted by: superadmin - 04-23-2021, 03:54 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 0ac55bef8da6e0efa6aa3bb82f6fb057.jpg=s660]

MP SPEAKS | I have read in toto the official statement issued by the minister of law on April 20, 2021, and in turn reported in almost all major media. In essence, the statement sought to justify the existence and the continuity of the current emergency.

Anyone who reads the statement will definitely notice a glaring missing fact therein. Not even a single sentence on Parliament was mentioned by Takiyuddin Hassan (above) in his press release.

Truth be told, I am not too sure whether he has successfully managed to convince the people via such a statement. Whether such a statement may possibly inspire investor confidence, with due respect, remains doubtful.

Like it or not, the proclamation of emergency, in my view, has unduly caused more harm than generated any positive results, at least to the economy. The fact that Covid-19 infections are on the rise, despite the existence of an emergency, has led to an avalanche of fierce criticism hurled at the present government.

Scientists at Texas A&M University’s Global Health Research Complex say they’ve detected a new Covid-19 variant that shows signs of a more contagious strain that causes more severe illness and appears to be resistant to antibodies.

The new variant, BV-1, named after its Brazos Valley origin, was found during Texas A&M’s routine coronavirus screening via saliva sample in a young student who had mild cold-like symptoms. The student tested positive for Covid on March 5 and tested positive again on March 25, showing that the new strain may cause a longer infection in younger people. The student’s symptoms resolved by April 2 and a third test on April 9 came back negative.

China could save $1.6 trillion by replacing coal with clean energy, report finds
Posted by: superadmin - 04-23-2021, 03:23 PM - Forum: Environment Protection News - No Replies

  • There’s a “huge economic incentive” for China to move away from coal, according to a report by financial analytics company TransitionZero.
  • China last year said it aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, but is currently heavily reliant on coal.
  • “There’s a great deal of work that China will still need to do,” said Matthew Gray, co-CEO of TransitionZero.

China could stand to benefit economically if it can successfully replace coal with renewable energy, according to a report by financial analytics company TransitionZero.

The study looked at the costs, or savings, that the Chinese government would incur if it replaced its existing coal-fired power plants with zero-carbon alternatives.

“What we found is China could save $1.6 trillion by doing that,” said Matthew Gray, co-CEO of TransitionZero, a London-based firm.
