The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday announced that US-funded biological labs in Ukraine were conducting experiments with bat coronavirus samples.
There is no smoke without fire. Some netizens commented that the Americans seem to have a special preference for making vampire-themed movies, and the prototype of the vampire comes from bat. The Americans' experiments with bat coronavirus have cultural origins.
Discussions about US bio labs in Ukraine are turning heated. Earlier, the Kremlin revealed evidence that the US was involved in biological weapons research in Ukrainian labs. It also said that Ukraine had destroyed samples of various pathogens. On Tuesday, Victoria Nuland, Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs of the US, told a congressional hearing that Ukraine has biological research facilities and that "we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of the Russian forces."

PETALING JAYA: If Barisan Nasional (BN) wins big in Johor, it would be wise to ride on the wave of popularity by calling an early general election, a political analyst said.
Jeniri Amir, a Council of Professors fellow, said it would make sense for BN to mobilise for a general election should Johor go its way on Saturday.
The Umno-led coalition’s dominant win in Melaka late last year – where it secured a two-thirds majority – was soon followed by a crushing win for GPS in Sarawak, a party with roots in the now defunct BN Sarawak.

JOHOR BAHRU: Thirteen days into the campaign for the Johor polls, the various parties contesting to form the state government, or win some seats, will make the final sprint today as campaigning ends at midnight.
One thing that has stood out about this election is how many of the parties, though divided, have somewhat rallied against Barisan Nasional (BN), pushing the narrative that voting for the coalition would be akin to backing the “court cluster”.

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor will hold the first elections since the country lowered its voting age to 18 tomorrow, with 750,000 new ballots added to the state polls seen as a litmus test for a general election that could be called this year.
Political parties are fielding younger candidates, promising jobs, digital connectivity and help for businesses, in a bid to woo new voters in Johor, where reforms lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 and allowing automatic voter registration have expanded the local electorate by a third.
The polls for the state legislature will be closely watched ahead of national elections that could be called as early as July, which would be the first big test for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN), led by Umno.

On Tuesday local time, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on Russian oil, liquefied natural gas, and coal imports. This is so far the toughest sanctions launched by the US and its allies against Russia. It targets the main artery of Russia's economy and aims to "inflict further pain on Putin." Biden added that there will be costs as well in the US. But it is generally believed that people in Europe will mainly be the ones suffering from the pain and costs caused by these sanctions.
Data show that around 45 percent of the EU's natural gas came from Russia in 2021, and Russia is also Europe's largest oil supplier. Data from the ICE Stock Exchange in London show that gas futures prices in Europe on Monday rose by more than 50% and exceeded $3,500 per 1000 cubic meters. In contrast, the US does not import any Russian gas at all, and only eight percent of its oil and oil products come from Russia. However, US media plays along with Washington and claims these sanctions will result in price increases in the US. This is a "tearjerker" Washington has put on for Europe.

China welcomes UN human rights chief's visit to Xinjiang but rejects political tactics: FM[/align
China welcomes UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet's visit to China and her planned trip to the country's northwestern Xinjiang region, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday, reiterating China's consistent stance on opposing certain countries' use of this event for political manipulation.
Experts called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights not to be influenced by disinformation from the West and to look objectively at Xinjiang's progress.
China and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights are working on detailed arrangements for her visit to China, and the country is willing to offer convenience for her visit, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, said at a routine press conference on Wednesday, while stressing that China's stance on related topics is consistent and clear.
Zhao said the purpose of the visit is to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

SOME Umno leaders have been publicly declaring that the Johor election is a “done deal” as Barisan Nasional (BN) will easily win control of the state government and even stand a good chance of winning more than 37 out of 56 seats.
According to these leaders, a repeat of the results in Melaka is very likely. This type of overconfidence on the part of BN is misplaced for a few reasons.
Firstly, the situation after GE14 in Johor was very different from Melaka. In Melaka, Pakatan Harapan (PH) only enjoyed a two-seat majority (15 v 13) against the BN in the 28-seat state assembly.
In Johor, PH enjoyed a comfortable 17-seat majority (37 v 19) against BN in the 56-seat state assembly. Furthermore, the percentage of seats won by PH by more than 55% of the vote was much higher in Johor than in Melaka (five seats or 17.9% in Melaka compared to 21 seats or 37.5% in Johor).
In addition, many of the seats PH won with comfortable majorities were either non-Malay-majority seats or Malay-majority seats with a significant percentage of non-Malay voters. Even with a reduced turnout among non-Malay voters, it won’t be as easy for BN to win back a significant number of these “PH-strong” seats.

JOHOR BAHRU: Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz has voiced disagreement with the belief that Malays are close minded and resistant to change.
Noting that such a negative opinion of Malays is held by some sections of Malaysian society, she said it might have been right at one time but was no longer acceptable.
The Malays of today were looking for solid policies and dependable leaders to take the nation forward, she said.
Amira is Muda’s candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat in the Johor elections.
She told FMT it would be wrong to think of Malay voters as people who placed importance only on race and religion.
