Sue Azilah for defamation, lawyer tells Najib
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2020, 02:32 PM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak should now file a defamation suit against Azilah Hadri who had claimed that the former prime minister ordered the murder of Mongolian citizen Altantuya Shaariibuu, a civil lawyer said.

Americk Sidhu said the suit would help clear Najib’s name as the former policeman’s statutory declaration (SD) had tainted him.

“Najib should file the suit not with the intention of obtaining damages but to redeem his reputation in the eyes of the public,” he told FMT.

Americk said the former prime minister had in the past been constrained from doing anything about Azilah’s claim as the Altantuya and Azilah matters were still pending before the courts. Yesterday, Azilah exhausted all his legal avenues when the Federal Court dismissed his application for a review of his murder conviction and death sentence.

Malay crisis politics, from Sheraton Move to Perak motion
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2020, 02:22 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Muafakat-Nasional-Umno-Pas-FMT-180820-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Slightly less than a year ago, three Malay-based parties, excited at the prospect of running a Malay-based government got together in an attempt to unite the Malays. They hit heady heights when the “Sheraton Move” led to power in Putrajaya, but the euphoria only lasted for four to five months.

Political insiders say the clashes began when Umno, PPBM and PAS started seat negotiations for the next general election (GE15).

“They realised that if Umno were to ask for more seats in Kelantan, PAS would ask for more seats in Kedah. The more each side gives in, the more that members down the line would be unhappy,” a source from Perikatan Nasional told FMT.

Despite the odds, the three parties managed to complete their negotiations on the majority of seats. But the dissatisfaction remained.

Trump's threats to democracy are going nowhere in court
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2020, 10:40 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

(CNN)The repetitive and meritless legal challenges to the November 3 election results from President Donald Trump and his allies have sent one fundamental message: Millions of votes cast by their fellow Americans are worthless.

Trump lawyers have argued for the widescale disenfranchisement of voters, including in Pennsylvania. So far, they have failed to convince the nation's courts.

The Supreme Court rejected one of the cases from Pennsylvania Tuesday with a single sentence. That high court action came with no explanation, yet it reinforced a pattern of lower court judges spurning a series of baseless appeals.

The frivolous lawsuits reflect Trump's enduring disregard for democratic values and further threaten to infect the American psyche by ceaselessly casting doubt on a fair election that Joe Biden won.

Umno can write a new page in the history of the nation
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2020, 10:12 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

There seems to be no unity among Umno, PAS and PPBM although they are all members of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government. This should prove that a coalition catering to a single race does not work.

In a single-race arrangement, there are bound to be intra-racial problems since it is in human nature to compete for domination in the hunt for power.

In truth, there is no such thing as Malay unity or Islamic solidarity in Malaysian politics. Only common goals and a shared ideology can bring about true togetherness.

Malaysia is blessed with a multiracial society and the formula worked out by Tunku Abdul Rahman in forming the Alliance and by Abdul Razak Hussein in forming Barisan Nasional (BN) worked well for six decades.

Umno should realise that it was once perceived as a moderate political party.

Even today, not everything about Umno is bad. But its reputation has taken some beating through the fault of some of its leaders. They lost their footing because they assumed the party would rule forever. Corruption crept in and ruined the party’s image. Consequently, BN fell in the 2018 general election.

If Umno cleans itself up, shuns corruption and chooses the moderate path in politics, it will once again be propped up by all races to lead the country in a new multiracial setup.

How this 30-year-old became Australia’s youngest self-made billionaire

How this 30-year-old became Australia’s youngest self-made billionaire during the pandemic

[Image: 106806883-1607231488681-IMG_0695_togethe...=740&h=416]

Nick Molnar is something of an Australian icon.

The 30-year-old is credited with reinventing the spending habits of millions of millennials, earning him a spot on his country’s young rich list.

And now, as the pandemic supercharges his payments business, its soaring share price has shot him to billionaire status.

“You can’t really digest what’s happening because a lot has happened very fast,” Molnar told CNBC Make It.
Inspired by crisis.

Molnar is the co-founder and co-CEO of Afterpay, a “buy now, pay later” payments platform that allows users to stagger the cost of their purchases over regular, interest-free instalments.

This year, the six-year-old tech start-up became one of Australia’s hottest stocks, surging 1,300% and doubling active users to 11.2 million as the coronavirus pandemic spurred new spending habits.

Ku Nan graft discharge will erode public confidence in AG, say lawyers
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2020, 05:18 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Public confidence in the attorney-general (AG) will be eroded following the withdrawal of a criminal charge against former minister Tengku Adnan Mansor, two lawyers said today.

A Srimurugan said such a negative perception could not be avoided as it was a high profile case and had caught the attention of the public over the last two years.

“What happened today really has undermined public confidence in the AG and given rise to much speculation,” he told FMT.

The lawyer said this in response to the High Court granting a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan over a RM1 million graft case.

Johor MB has succeeded where you failed, Liew tells Muhyiddin
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2020, 12:58 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Liew Chin Tong has praised Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad for his bipartisan approach in governing the state while calling out Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for failing to do the same at the federal level.

The Johor DAP chairman said Hasni and Muhyiddin were in similar predicaments, holding slim majorities in the state assembly and Dewan Rakyat, respectively, but chose different approaches to pass their budgets.

“Thus far, Muhyiddin has been trying to dominate and subjugate, alienating the opposition and his own allies while losing focus on the need to rally the nation to face the greatest political, economic and health crises that the country has ever seen.

“Hasni defined the opposition as a ‘strategic partner’ in governing, which is a departure from Umno’s old idea of its dominance and attempts to eliminate the opposition.

Traitor PM Muhyiddin Betrayed – How & Why Ally UMNO Joined Hands With Rival DAP To Overthrow Perak Chief Minister

UMNO thought by joining forces with PAS, it’s a guarantee that the combo will win the next 15th General Election. So the best way to undermine them is to feed their own ego. PAS thought by siding with Bersatu (instead of ally UMNO), it’s a guarantee that the Islamist party will continue to be part of the government. So the best way to undermine them is to feed their own arrogance.

Bersatu thought by splitting UMNO and PAS, it’s a guarantee that it will control the federal government forever. So the best way to undermine them is to feed their own over-confidence. Yes, the only way to undermine the backdoor Perikatan Nasional government is to play along and feed their own ego, arrogance and over-confidence.

Malaysian grads working as rubbish collectors shine in S’pore

SINGAPORE: An inspirational quote by Steve Jobs, a co-founder of Apple Inc, to love whatever work one is doing has seen two Malaysian graduates work as rubbish collectors in Singapore.

Muhammad Khidir Samsudin, who prefers to be called Eday, and his colleague, Mohd Yuamirul Che Yussoff, recently became the focus of attention on social media when they returned an iPad Pro belonging to a Singaporean. They had found it disposed of accidentally in a recycle bin.

Michelle Lim took to Facebook on Dec 2 to express her appreciation.

Lim had written that Eday, 25, and Yuamirul, 26, deserved a “more fulfilling and rewarding job”.

Selangau MP calls on PM Muhyiddin to retract statement against secularism, liberalism
Posted by: superadmin - 12-05-2020, 01:36 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUCHING, Dec 5 ― Selangau MP Baru Bian has called upon the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to retract his statement against secularism and liberalism as it was deemed grossly insensitive to Sarawak’s aspirations.

He also also called upon all right-thinking Sarawak leaders to make their stand on this issue and be heard, so as to safeguard the Federal Constitution and secularity.

“If the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government perseveres to challenge secularism, then all Sarawakian parliamentarians must withdraw support for this PN administration, including the GPS parliamentarians without whom Muhyiddin Yassin will surely fall as PM,” he said in a statement today.

Baru, who is Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) presidential council member, said on November 28 at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) annual general meeting, the prime minister was quoted as saying the PN government alliance with Umno and PAS, was ‘God’s will’, and vows to fight against secularism and liberalism.
