Being disadvantaged is familiar territory: Pakatan hopeful of capturing Melaka
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 12:59 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR –
A ban on physical activities related to the Melaka election does not seem to bother Umno and Bersatu one bit, as top party leaders make their way down to the tourist-magnet coastal state a full week ahead of nomination.

Pakatan Harapan (PH), on the other hand, intends to continue playing it by the book, and appears unperturbed by the inroads made by its political rivals.

But will the “law-abiding” coalition find itself at the losing end come polling day on November 20?

This will not necessarily be the case, going by the assessment of PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, who said the component parties within PH are already accustomed to contesting at a handicap.

“Will it be unfair to PH? Yes. But in all our experience going into a competitive election, whether under Barisan Alternatif, Pakatan Rakyat, or now PH, we have always operated in spaces where we are at a disadvantage.

Ku Nan pocketed RM2mil ‘political donation’, says judge in dissenting ruling
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 12:51 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PUTRAJAYA: The High Court in Tengku Adnan Mansor’s corruption trial made a correct finding that the former federal territories minister pocketed RM2 million as there is no evidence that he or his company channelled the money received from a businessman as political donation to Umno.

Court of Appeal judge Abu Bakar Jais said it was also untrue for Tengku Adnan, better known as Ku Nan, to claim the money was given as a political donation and not for him personally.

The judge said this was because it was never proven there was any record that Umno was given the money.

Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd director Chai Kin Kong had personally delivered a cheque a few days before the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections to Ku Nan.

The money was deposited into the bank account of Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, owned by Ku Nan.

Melaka 4 different from those in Sheraton Move betrayal, says Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 12:48 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has defended the four Melaka assemblymen who retracted support for the previous state government, saying they are not like those who toppled the Pakatan Harapan government in the Sheraton Move.

Anwar said those involved in the Sheraton Move had betrayed the people’s mandate given to PH, while the Melaka four did it to return the mandate to the opposition coalition.

“They decided to support us and return the mandate to PH, which was previously stolen through betrayals.

“I disagree with those who categorise them in the same group as those involved in the Sheraton Move, who betrayed the people’s trust.

“The four merely wanted to return this trust to PH,” he told reporters after an event in Chuah, Negeri Sembilan.

New January 6 court filings reveal what Trump is trying to keep secret from Congress
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 10:25 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: https%3A%2F%2Fspecials-images.forbesimg....pY2%3D1077]

(CNN)Specifics about former President Donald Trump's efforts to keep secret the support from his White House for overturning his loss of the 2020 election were revealed in late-night court filings that detail more than 700 pages of handwritten notes, draft documents and daily logs his top advisers kept related to January 6.

The National Archives outlined for the first time in a sworn declaration what Trump wants to keep secret.

And the US House has told a federal court that Trump has no right to keep confidential more than 700 documents from his presidency, citing a committee's need to reconstruct Trump's efforts to undermine the 2020 election and his actions on January 6.

The court filings are in response to a lawsuit Trump brought nearly two weeks ago in which he is attempting to block congressional investigators from accessing hundreds of pages of records they requested from the National Archives, which inherited Trump's presidential papers. The House presents itself as in agreement with the Biden administration, in an unusual show of inter-branch alignment, to oppose Trump.

Budget 2022 an advantage for govt, Pakatan in next year’s polls
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 10:11 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Budget 2022 – the first tabled under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s watch – has earned the plaudits of political observers who described it as all-encompassing, but also pointed to the agreement with the opposition.

More than anything else, they said this is a clear reflection of how important last month’s historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the government and Pakatan Harapan (PH) is proving to become.

Speaking to The Vibes, National Professors Council senior fellow Prof Jeniri Amir said the MoU has demonstrated that it goes beyond just ensuring political stability – and if upheld, could be of extreme benefit to the rakyat and country.

“This is the way forward for democracy, that there should be negotiations and openness from the government to consider input from all quarters. They should consider whatever positive and pragmatic proposals.

Too much money for religious authorities, say critics
Posted by: superadmin - 10-31-2021, 09:40 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Tawfik-Ismail-and-G25-member-Johan-Ariffin-Samad.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: The provision of an extra RM100 million in a RM1.5 billion budget allocation for the management and development of Islam in next year’s budget has raised eyebrows, with critics commenting that it is far too much given religious authorities’ lack of a track record.

“That’s too much money for them” said former Umno MP Tawfik Ismail in response to the budget speech, adding that just like previous years it remained unclear where all the money would end up being spent and what impact the government intended to have.

“Will the money benefit just those in Jakim (the federal department of Islamic development), or will it filter out to the benefit of the whole country?” he asked.

Finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, in presenting the 2022 budget today, said there would be a focus on promoting Islamic teachings, with the religious affairs department of the Prime Minister’s Department getting RM100 million more than it did in 2021.

Death for mother of nine: Where is the noise?

From Sheith Khidhir

Timah, the name of a local award-winning brand of whisky, was the top news in the week of Oct 18 to 24. Opinion writers, journalists and netizens couldn’t seem to stop sharing views and news on the subject.

Celebrity entrepreneur Nur Sajat also had the limelight, especially following foreign reports of her new life in Australia and how backward and bigoted Malaysia was for causing so much trouble for a member of the transgender community.

This article’s purpose is neither to condemn anyone’s opinion nor put to forth its own argument regarding either of the topics. Instead, it looks at one story that no writer or netizen seemed to care much about.
