KUALA LUMPUR: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been ordered by the High Court here to enter his defence on charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of assets and money laundering.
Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid said the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the Muda president and former youth and sports minister.
Syed Saddiq, 29, is charged with abetting the Bersatu youth wing’s former assistant treasurer, Rafiq Hakim, in the commission of CBT of RM1 million at CIMB Bank Bhd on Jalan Stesen Sentral 2 here on March 6, 2020.
As the then Bersatu Youth chief, Syed Saddiq was entrusted with control of its funds.

Drowning in GE15 social media messages |

My WhatsApp is flooded with messages from friends and those in chat groups regarding the 15th general election (GE15). Most share reports from news portals and newspapers, or postings from Facebook.
This time around, I’m getting Tik-Tok clips of politicians giving speeches or at press conferences or just getting a message across.
Politicians and political parties have taken to social media, including YouTube, like never before. Speeches of leaders are uploaded minutes after the events; sometimes they are carried live. Videos of visits by party leaders or potential candidates are uploaded, just as other messages are, for the consumption of the voter. And supporters are sharing these video clips and messages with those in their contact list.

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP’s outgoing Klang MP Charles Santiago has penned a heartfelt and magnanimous note to his constituents and followers, following the party’s decision to drop him from the coming 15th general election (GE15).
In the brief statement, Santiago wished his replacement candidate Ganabatirau Veeraman well, adding that he hoped voters would cast their ballots for a Pakatan Harapan government.
“I am sure my successor shares the same dream for this country of ours. And just like I did, he too needs your support. I know many of you are upset that I am not fielded again but I know we are better than the anger,” Santiago said.
“We are at a crucial time, where each of our votes counts. And therefore, I humbly request that you cast your vote for a Pakatan Harapan government.”

PETALING JAYA: Abdul Hadi Awang’s office has denied that the PAS president had ever called PKR president Anwar Ibrahim a Freemason.
In a statement, Hadi’s office said these accusations were baseless and the party rejected such political slander.
“We were called upon to deny this allegation and state on record that the PAS president has never said this,” it said.
During a speech yesterday, Anwar, in an attempt to demonstrate that Hadi’s words should not be taken at face value, claimed that he had been called a Freemason.

PETALING JAYA: Larry Sng insists he is still the president of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and will be signing the watikah (appointment letter of candidates) in the 15th general election (GE15).
“All previous announcements made by party leaders are just mere speculation,” the former Julau MP said in a Facebook post.
“The official announcement will be made by myself, and only I will sign the watikah for PBM in GE15.”
Stating that he had not resigned from his position or relinquished his party membership, Sng said that he would be contesting GE15 on PBM’s ticket.

SWITCHING constituencies is a healthy practice that should be welcomed in order to curb the widespread of localism and provincialism among political parties while at the same time, make Malaysia a more united country.
In defending such practice, veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin said political parties such as DAP, PKR, PAS and Amanah have leveraged the concept quite widely and successfully for a long time.
“Even UMNO practiced it in the early years of independence. Candidates from outside the district and even the state contested and won,” penned the former Bersatu supreme council member in his latest Facebook post.
“For example the late (Tan Sri) Fatimah Hashim who hailed from Muar (Johor) won the Jitra-Kuala Nerang seat in Kedah during the 1959 and 1964 general elections, and was later appointed as Social Welfare Minister.”
But alas, year after year, Kadir observed that UMNO has become more and more parochial (regional) to the point that even leaders from adjacent districts are not accepted.
