Malay votes not PN’s focus in Kuala Kubu Baharu, says analyst

PETALING JAYA: An analyst says he does not think Perikatan Nasional’s focus at the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will be on securing the Malay vote.

Akademi Nusantara’s Azmi Hassan said PN will not be gunning for the Malay votes on May 11 because it is “theirs already”.

He said Malay voters in the state constituency are expected to show strong support for the opposition coalition even if it fields a Chinese or Indian candidate from one of its components.

“Seventy to 80% of Malay voters will support PN. Whether it’s a candidate from Gerakan or PAS, those votes will be there.

“The key for PN (in this by-election) is to steal a bit from non-Malay voters who support Pakatan Harapan,” he told FMT.

Despite this, Azmi expects DAP to defend the Selangor seat once again with a similar majority as during the state elections last August.

Chinese villagers smoothen Raya travellers’ journey home
Posted by: superadmin - 04-16-2024, 06:51 AM - Forum: Inspiring Stories - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A group of Chinese villagers came to the aid of travellers using back roads to beat the congestion following the end of the Aidilfitri holidays.

Zairul Annuar Zain was using a “rat route” in Ladang Bikam, Perak, while heading south on Saturday night, in hopes of evading the traffic jam on the PLUS highway, Bernama reported.

With several cars also taking the same route, it was not long before the journey got more bumpy because of the bad road conditions.

“It was already 10pm. Suddenly, a vehicle from the opposite direction stopped and asked us to turn back as the cars couldn’t pass because of the hilly, poor road conditions. It meant that we had to turn back and face the traffic congestion,” he said.

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has hit out at the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) for failing to protect the interests of consumers, citing a recent incident where he was charged RM50 for correcting a minor error in his name while checking in for a flight.

Zaid said an airline staff had insisted on charging him for the error in his booking details despite him providing sufficient identification.

“The other day, someone helped me book my flight. At the check-in counter, I was told my name did not conform with my identification card. The ‘Mohd’ was missing,” he said in a post on X today.

“I told her Zaid bin Ibrahim should be adequate. My photo was there on the identity card. She said I had to pay RM50 for the error. It’s in the rules.”

The faces that give Malaysians hope of a better future
Posted by: superadmin - 04-11-2024, 05:13 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

A politically-induced paranoia appears to be sweeping the nation. So far, it is mainly evident in a small group of Malaysians who have chosen to put on their blinkers and unsurprisingly decided to see only what they want to see and interpret it in a way that whets their appetite for bigotry.

Umno Youth leader Dr Akmal Saleh is now the de facto leader of this bunch. His brash style of politicking is obviously aimed at giving him the aura of a champion of Muslims. He also appears to be the self-appointed guardian of Islam in Malaysia.

He has used crowd psychology effectively to defy the authorities by focusing on defending the religion, to avoid being accused of whipping up the crowds. Honestly, he seems to have a group of blind loyalists who seem oblivious to how the nation can be so easily destroyed.
