Azmin says he’s hitting the pause button in politics
PETALING JAYA: Bersatu Supreme Council member Azmin Ali has decided to hit the pause button in politics to decide on his next step, saying he has to go back to the drawing board.
In a surprise tweet today, Azmin, who has been relatively quiet since his defeat in the Gombak parliamentary seat in the last general election (GE15), said he needs a rethink.
“To all Malaysians, it is a momentary pause in my public service career that warrants going back to the drawing board. Nevertheless, there remains no let-up in my resolve to serve the nation and the rakyat,” he said.
Azmin, who quit PKR in 2020, played a prominent role in the Sheraton Move that saw the Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional (PN) take over the government from Pakatan Harapan (PH).
He is still the assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa, a seat he won at the 14th general election in 2018.

PKR man hits out at Azmin for taking a break from politics
PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy information chief Razeef Rakimin has called out Azmin Ali for wanting to take a break from politics, reminding the latter that he still has a duty to serve his constituents in Bukit Antarabangsa.
While Bersatu Supreme Council member Azmin failed to defend his Gombak parliamentary seat in the last general election (GE15), he remains the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman, a Selangor state seat he won at the 14th general election (GE14) in May 2018.
“As an elected representative, the decision to rest can only be made when deciding not to contest in an election,” Razeef said in a statement.
“As long as he (Azmin) is an elected representative, it is his duty to continue serving the people until the end of his term.”
Calling Azmin’s announcement “irresponsible”, Razeef said the former international trade and industry minister would surely continue to receive his allowance as an assemblyman despite taking a break from politics.
