KUALA LUMPUR – Lim Kok Leong created history by becoming the first Malaysian to win the World Snooker Championships title yesterday in Antalya, Turkey.

Kok Leong walked over Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh with a 5-0 scorecard (68-63, 67-42, 78-0, 80-7, 73-54) in the final, after he defeated Pakistan’s Babar Masih, 5-3, in the semi-finals.

It was only a month ago that the 27-year-old was crowned as the world amateur team champion – partnered with Moh Keen Ho – for the second time when it was hosted in Kuala Lumpur on October 9.

The duo defeated Thailand’s Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn-Jongrak Boonrod, 4-2, in the final held at the High Snooker Club in Cheras.

Their first victory was achieved in 2015 at Karachi, Pakistan.

Kok Leong also made the country proud when he delivered a gold medal at the Hanoi SEA Games in May when he won the six-red snooker singles, while Keen Hoo won bronze. – The Vibes, November 12, 2022
