KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob appears to be a prime minister under siege from his own party.

Umno warlords have given the prime minister what appears to be an ultimatum – fulfil four demands or face being sacked as the party’s vice-president.

This in turn would – some would hope – risk bringing his tenure to an abrupt end, making his time in office the shortest one so far.

At Wednesday’s political bureau meeting chaired by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, four demands were made of Ismail Sabri – three of which centred around now-disgraced former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is serving his time in Kajang Prison following the Federal Court’s decision to uphold his conviction in the SRC International case.

PETALING JAYA: Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has denied reports that party leaders have given Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob an ultimatum to fulfill several demands or he will be sacked as the vice-president.

This follows reports quoting sources that Ismail had been told to remove Attorney-General Idrus Harun and Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, seek a royal pardon for Najib Razak, and call for the 15th general election (GE15).

The Umno warlords reportedly made these demands at its political bureau meeting on Wednesday, which Ismail attended.

Ahmad maintained that the reports were not true and that these demands were never made against the prime minister.

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will initiate legal action against news portals Astro Awani and Malaysiakini over “slanderous” reports over the purported chain of events that occurred during the party’s meetings this week.

In a Facebook post today, Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki disputed what was reported by the two media organisations as incorrect, saying he was in the meetings and those “matters” were not discussed.

“It is outright slander and malicious reporting by Malaysiakini, which said that the prime minister was given an ultimatum to dissolve Parliament or risk being booted out.
