PETALING JAYA: Election watchdog Bersih 2.0 has decided to rebrand itself back to “Bersih” and with a new logo.

Its chairman, Thomas Fann, said the civil society group has decided to omit the “2.0” from its name so as not to confuse the public with “Bersih” and “Bersih 2.0”.

Fann said Bersih was originally founded by a group of opposition politicians and civil society activists and it was decided that since many of the founding members were not elected representatives, it should be a civil society-led organisation. The transition was made in 2010 with the renaming of Bersih to Bersih 2.0.

“However, after 11 years, we are independent and free from political influence. The time has come for the group to drop the ‘2.0’ and just be known as Bersih,” he said in an event today to celebrate Bersih’s 15th anniversary.

In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, Bersih also unveiled its new logo.

Fann said the new logo, illustrated by artist Fahmi Reza, was to signify a lasting social change.
