PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) to redouble its efforts to gain rural voters, stating that the coalition’s solution to broaden its appeal in rural areas is “actually quite straight forward”.

“It’s not a question of strategy, it’s a question of effort,” said the former Pandan MP.

“If you want to penetrate the rural areas, you have to get politicians who know how to move on the ground, are sincere and want to know about rural issues … rather than shouting in Parliament,” he said.

Rafizi, who was speaking at the Malaysian Student Leaders’ Summit 2021, was asked to comment on how PH could better penetrate rural areas, especially Malay-dominated ones, in which PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP may not have that much influence.

He noted that PH did not have enough people reaching out to rural voters, largely because doing so was “tough and tiring” in terms of the time and effort required to do so.
