PETALING JAYA: A social scientist formerly with the World Bank has reiterated his call for a unity government to be formed even as the nation prepares itself for a full lockdown after a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Lim Teck Ghee, who made a similar call last year, said a unity government is “achievable” and is urgently needed to deal with Malaysia’s many crises.

It could also prove to be an antidote to the current political polarisation, he said. “It can help correct the country’s current political divide,” he told FMT when asked if a unity government was possible in the current political environment.

“A unity government can’t do any worse than our present government,” he said.
